Participants explored STEM with LEGO Robotics and 3D Printing, learned food safety and quick meal prep in Cooking, and identified healthy foods in Nutrition. Our Nature class featured a walk for plant identification, while our Social Skills class included games and LEGO activities. With over 50 attendees, the energy was amazing! Social Studies “ line dance” . The kids got to motivation and what motivated them. Then they used that knowledge to look at what motivated the Europeans to colonize the Americas. Rocket Learners to Rocket Leaders!! 🚀🚀

Third Graders in Mr. Brown's room celebrated International Dot Day this week. Students read the story "The Dot" and got to create their own masterpiece to share in the hall. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

Mrs. Lyndsey’s Social Studies classes are diving into the essential skill of reading maps! As they traveled around the room to different centers, students practiced using a compass rose, worked collaboratively in groups, and selected destination routes. These hands-on activities are not only fun but also crucial for developing spatial awareness, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. By learning to read maps, students gain a deeper understanding of geography and the world around them. This skill will help them navigate real-world situations, plan trips, and even interpret data in various careers. Map reading is a foundational skill that empowers students to see the bigger picture—literally and figuratively!

Mr. Blake, Ms. Charon, and Ms. Pam’s classes finished learning how to make observations in Mr. Blake’s Science class today. They observed and taste-tested three mystery foods: Kool-Aid, cake frosting, and mustard, then made their guesses. Ms. Becky and Mr. Coffee also participated in the taste test.

Our fourth graders enjoyed a delightful book tasting at the MVES Book Café in Mrs. Shepherd’s reading class! They explored five different genres, sampled new books, and discussed their choices with friends. To top it off, everyone enjoyed a tasty snack. It was a fun and engaging way to foster a love of reading. We’re well on our way to becoming amazing readers! 🐴❤️📚

MVES playground has a new addition: a Buddy Bench! This simple yet powerful tool promotes kindness and inclusivity. Kids can sit on the bench if they feel lonely, signaling others to join in and play. It's a small gesture with a big impact on building a supportive community. A huge thank you to Rockcastle Area Technology Center’s Welding class for crafting our bench! 🌟
