Rocket Habit of the Month: Be Proactive! ✨🚀
This October, we’re focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive — taking charge of your actions, words, and choices. Instead of reacting to what happens around you, choose a positive response and focus on what you can control.

🚀 Starting tomorrow, we’re launching a brand-new series: Rocket Habit of the Month! 🌟
Each month, we’ll spotlight one of the 7 Habits from the Leader in Me framework — powerful principles that help students build leadership, responsibility, and strong character. These habits connect directly to our Portrait of a Rocket work, guiding learners to lead themselves, collaborate with others, and grow continuously — in school and beyond.
Stay tuned as we explore each habit and highlight the many ways our Rockets put them into action every day! 🚀💙

Second grade had a bushel of fun learning about apples and exploring Haney’s Apple Orchard today. It was a beautiful day to have a picnic lunch and we ended with some play time.

Mrs. Shepherd’s first-grade class had a bushel of fun during their apple-themed week! Students explored the apple life cycle, made apple volcanoes, taste-tested different varieties, and created apple pie-scented playdough. They wrapped up the week by making homemade applesauce and celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday with a fun directed drawing activity!

Rock Spirit Day at MVES! Our Mustangs showed up strong in their Rocket gear and colors. Proud to be part of this amazing community!

FRC After-School Enrichment is in full swing! From building catapults in STEM to crafting tasty charcuterie boards in cooking, plus plenty of games and fun — our students are learning, creating, and having a blast!

Our first grade classrooms are buzzing with excitement! Small group learning in reading and math is in full swing, and our students are doing an amazing job during independent centers. It’s incredible to see their confidence grow as they work, explore, and have fun while learning!

The FRC Bunch did an amazing job collecting food for the CAP Food Drive this week! We appreciate their hard work and dedication.

Mrs. Hillary Whitaker and RCMS FFA students visited our kindergarten and first-grade classrooms to read books about farming and agriculture in celebration of Kentucky Agriculture Week. Thank you for sharing your time and teaching our students about the importance of agriculture!

The Portrait of a Rocket continues to guide our work at Rockcastle County Schools, showing how every student can learn, lead, and soar. Rooted in The Leader in Me framework and aligned with Kentucky’s Portrait of a Learner, it reflects the qualities we aim to build in all Rockets—resilience, responsibility, communication, collaboration, innovation, and critical thinking. 🚀
